Why are fat people always the butt of jokes?

The word fat has become synonymous with the word joke, and it can seem like every time you turn on the TV or open up your favorite magazine you are bombarded with fat jokes. But where did fat people come from? why do we keep making fun of them? We will explore these questions, as well as provide tips for being more sensitive to overweight people when telling jokes.

Why are fat people always the butt of jokes?

Fat People Not Always Obese

Muscle weighs more than fat, which means thin or medium-weight individuals may have a higher body mass index (BMI) than obese people.

  •  This means that being fat is equated with being unhealthy—an idea that’s just not true for every person. A sense of humor about your size is an important part of feeling good about yourself, but it can be hard when other people are making fun of you, too.
  •  If you feel obese, don’t ignore it! There might be something medically wrong and losing even 5%–10% could make a big difference in how you feel overall.

Fat People Aren’t Always Lazy

Many people think that a person is overweight because he is lazy or lacks self-control. But according to research, an estimated 60 percent of obese adults have at least one chronic condition related to their weight, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or sleep apnea. When we come to protection from discrimination and harassment on the job, obese people aren't exactly covered by most laws.

Fat People Don’t Always Eat More Than Thin People

When it comes to obesity. people do raises because they just love food too much. It's easy to be judgmental, especially when so many health problems—like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer—are linked to obesity.

Society Punishes Fat People, Not Nature

two-thirds of American adults,  in their lives, will be overweight or obese.

  •  Sadly, many factors influence a person's likelihood to gain weight and develop obesity, including genetics and socioeconomic status. But for some reason, one common myth exists: Some people think that obese individuals gain weight because they lack self-control.
  • Whether or not it's ever directly said out loud, there seems to be an idea that fat is synonymous with laziness. The media often reinforces these stereotypes through its portrayal of overweight individuals as lazy, immoral, and lacking any willpower.

The News is Filled with Bullshit About Health

The mass media is famous for its bullshit to let facts get in the way of a good story, especially when talking about health reporting. This makes sense: because readers and viewers enjoy being informed about important issues.
